Freelancing to Fiction

I was on The Writer's Website yesterday and found this nice little link: http://www.writermag.com/wrt/default.aspx?c=ni&id=56

I absolutely cannot wait for the March issue of The Writer! It'll have my piece for the Breakthrough column where I wrote how writing articles led me to my book deal. In my case, it's completely true that freelancing for magazines taught me a lot about writing fiction from putting deadlines on myself, to editing to working with editors.

Have you freelanced? Did you find it helpful before you started writing a book? If you haven't, would you consider freelancing or are you sticking to fiction

Exciting! I will have to check it out when I get my issue, whenever that is. Unfortunately I haven't even gotten my Feb issue yet, delivery is so spotty for some reason. I'd actually considered writing a Breakthrough article too, or doing some other freelancing, but I just have so much on my plate I think I'd better just concentrate on Book 2!

I haven't gotten my Feb issue yet either. I guess they just like to post things super-early online. :)

Well, I am glad I am not the only one! The annoying thing is that I always see the issue in the bookstore before I get it in the mail. Sometimes I get two issues, say the Nov and Dec, at one time. Grr. My husband is a nerdy railfan and gets one of Kalmbach's train magazines, and he has the same problem.

But anyway, congrats on the article! I can't wait to read it!

It looks like it's going to be a fantastic issue. I'm fascinated by your freelance success, so I'll definitely enjoy the Breakthrough column. :)

I'm planning on really forging ahead with my freelancing this year, as well as querying for my WIPs, so that will certainly be an adventure.
